Ride Capt. Reference Guide
RIDE TYPE:
"SS" = SlowSpokes Ride - Ride Captain provides cue sheets for all ride distances; rides (or finds someone to ride) with slower or new riders; sends list of rider names to Statistician. Pace is generally from 10-18 mph.
"WH" = Wheelmen Ride - Ride Captain has same responsibilities as SS Ride Captains, but these rides tend to be faster, hillier, and harder than SS rides. Pace is generally from 17-23 mph.
"SP" = Sponsored Ride - These rides usually require registration and may have fees. Most of these rides have full rider support and SAG/food stops. Ride Captain sends list of rider names to Statistician. If registration or a fee is required for a ride, the member must have registered or paid the fee to receive club mileage. Check the event's website or call the Ride Captain for more information.
"CL" = Club Event
TERRAIN RATINGS:
Terrain Ratings are based on a 4 point scale. Subjectively, they may be understood as: 1=flat/easy, 2=flat with a few hills, 3=moderately hilly, 4=hilly/challenging. The TR# is objectively determined based on the average feet-per-mile of climbing over the entire route:
TR # | | AVERAGE FEET-PER-MILE OF CLIMBING
WITH A MAXIMUM GRADE OF
4 |
= |
56+ |
  *
11% |
3 |
= |
41-55 | 9% |
2 |
= |
26-40 | 7% |
1 |
= |
0-25 | 4% |
If the maximum grade for a terrain rating is exceeded, then a "+" is added to the rating. This indicates a hill climb or two that are uncharacteristically challenging based on the route's average terrain (feet-per-mile).
